MCKENZIE BRIDGE – Roseburg freshman Bryce Thomason qualified for the 6A boys state golf tournament by placing seventh at a regional tournament at Tokatee Golf Club on Monday.

Thomason shot a single round score of 78 to finish seven strokes behind the tournament champion Joey Brunden of South Eugene. Thomason joins teammate Cole Dittemore at the state tournament. Dittemore qualified for state by finishing third at the Special District 3 tournament held last week.

The 6A boys state golf tournament will be held Monday and Tuesday next week at Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks.

The Sutherlin boy’s golf team won its district tournament at Tokatee Golf Club on Tuesday to advance to the 4A state tournament next week. Senior Matt Black placed first in the tournament and led the Bulldogs with a two-day score of 160. Black shot an 80 in both rounds and beat the second place finisher by seven strokes.

Senior Jeremiah Scroggins finished with a two-day score of 174 and placed fourth in the tournament. The rest of the Sutherlin team finished 15th or lower. The Bulldogs edged out second place Stayton by nine strokes.

The 4A boys state golf tournament will be held Monday and Tuesday next week at Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis.
