TENNIS
The Roseburg girl’s tennis team wrapped up a perfect league season with a 5-3 win over Willamette on Wednesday. The RHS girls went 8-0 in Southwest Conference duals and finished the regular season 15-1 overall.
The Indians rested a few of their top competitors in preparation for the upcoming district tournament. Roseburg will next take the courts in Eugene for the start of the districts on Saturday.
The Roseburg boys finished the conference season with a 5-3 loss at South Eugene on Wednesday. The Indians were swept in the singles matches before taking three out of four doubles matches.
Up next for the RHS boys is the start of the district tournament on Saturday. The Indians will host the tourney at the Umpqua Valley Tennis Center.
BASEBALL
The Oakland baseball team missed a chance to inch closer to the top spot in the 2A/1A Special District 3 standings on Wednesday. The Oakers trailed first place Monroe by two games to start the day, but the Dragons kept their stronghold on the top spot by beating Oakland 8-5.
Oakland now trails Monroe by three games with six league games left to play.
In another Special District 3 match-up, the Elkton baseball team ended things early with eight runs in the sixth inning to pull off a 12-2 mercy rule win over Crow. The Elks had 13 hits in the game, while pitchers Jarret Williams and Austin Luzier combined to allow just four hits and struck out eight.
In non-league games on Wednesday, Riddle baseball defeated Gold Beach 15-10 and Umpqua Valley Christian downed Bandon 6-2.
SOFTBALL
Second place Oakland slipped up against third place Monroe in a 2A/1A Special District 3 contest on Wednesday. Monroe led 2-1 after three innings, but the Dragons broke the game open with eight runs in the fourth and fifth innings combined. Monroe won by a final score of 12-2. The loss puts Oakland in a virtual tie with Monroe for second place.
Also in Special District 3 on Wednesday, North Douglas ran away with a 12-1 victory against Mohawk.
In non-league action Wednesday, the Glide Wildcats lost 6-2 at Elmira.
