CORVALLIS, Ore. – Jordan Britton and Brandon Eisert combined to hold Oregon two hits and a walk to send top-ranked Oregon State to a 4-1 win Tuesday in front a sold out crowd of 3,316 at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
The matchup, the Civil War, presented by PacificSource Health Plans, Spirit Mountain Casino, Safeway/Albertsons and Your Local Toyota Dealers, saw Britton make his first start of the season. The left-hander from Caldwell, Idaho, limited the Ducks to two hits – a double in the second and single in the sixth – with just one walk. He struck out two and earned the win after 5 2/3 innings – his first of the season.
Eisert, meanwhile, picked up where Britton left off, going 3 1/3 scoreless innings for the save, his second of the year. He struck out six – including five straight from the seventh through the eighth – and retired all 10 batters he faced.
Jack Anderson drove in a pair to lead the Beavers offensively. He hit a sacrifice fly to get Oregon State on the board in the first, and drove home KJ Harrison with a single in the seventh.
The Beavers, up 1-0 after three, added two runs in the fourth via an Adley Rutschman single and sacrifice fly by Nick Madrigal.
Both Anderson and Rutschman finished with two hits.
Ryne Nelson started for Oregon and took the loss after allowing one hit and one run in one inning of work. He dropped to 0-1.
The win pushed the Beavers to 35-4 on the year, while Oregon dropped to 25-15.
Another Sellout
The 3,316 in attendance marked the seventh crowd of 3,000 or more for Oregon State this season. The Beavers have totaled 47,591 at Goss Stadium, an average of 2,974.
Career-Long For Britton
Jordan Britton’s 5 2/3 innings Tuesday night marked a career-long for the sophomore, eclipsing his previous best of four innings, achieved twice, most recently against Seattle last season. He came into the game with 4 1/3 innings of work during the 2017 season.
Eisert Shuts The Door
Brandon Eisert’s six strikeouts on the night gave the left-handed freshman 35 on the year in just 26 2/3 innings. He is averaging 11.8 strikeouts per nine innings.
ERA Check
Oregon State’s one run allowed on the night put the Beavers at 87 overall, with 75 earned. The team’s earned run average dropped to 1.89 from 1.91.
