ROSEBURG – The Roseburg girl’s tennis team rolled passed South Eugene 6-2 on Saturday to win their home tournament at the Umpqua Valley Tennis Club.

Roseburg’s top competitors fared well through the two-day event. Adrienne Powell, the Indians’ top singles player, won three out of her four matches and only lost two sets the entire tournament. Roseburg’s top doubles team, Bailey Pritchard-Norlin and Megan Danielson, won all four of its matches and lost just one set.

The Indians started the tournament with wins over Sprague, Churchill, and Junction City on Friday. Roseburg beat Churchill again in the semifinals on Saturday to advance to the championship.

The Roseburg girls will have two more conference meets before starting the district tournament on Saturday.

GRANTS PASS – The Roseburg track and field team had three of its boys finish on the podium in throwing events Saturday at the 68th Annual Grants Pass Rotary Invitational.

For the first time this season, Roseburg’s Tyler Sconce did not win a shot put event. The junior finished second, losing to North Medford’s Tre Holmes.

The two went neck-and-neck in a conference dual meet just last Wednesday. Sconce beat Holmes in the shot put by half an inch, but this time Holmes had a PR throw to beat Sconce by just under two feet. Sconce had placed first in all 10 shot put events he had participating in prior to Saturday’s runner-up finish.

Sconce also finished third in the discus competition.

Roseburg also landed two athletes on the podium in the javelin. Junior Dalton Rasmussen had a PR throw of 180 feet, 4 inches to finish second. Senior Sam Tibbetts took third.

Up next, the Roseburg track and field team will host the Southwest Conference District Meet next week.
