ROSEBURG – Competing for the final time at home before the Southwest Conference district tournament, the Roseburg boys and girls track & field teams were swept by North Medford on Wednesday. Both team scores were close, but the Black Tornado topped Roseburg 80-65 in the boys standings and 79-62 in the girls.
Roseburg once again performed well in the sprints and the field events. The RHS girls finished 1-2-3 in the 100 meters. Freshman Gracious Lusby took first followed by juniors Madison Severson and Brooklyn Cole. Roseburg junior Carolyn Cuilty won the 200 meters with a personal record time of 28.04.
The Roseburg boys did well in the 200 and 400 meters. Sophomore Stephen Lake had a PR time to win the 200, while senior Tristan Wood PR’d while winning the 400.
Roseburg’s success in the short distance races translated to the relays as well. The Roseburg girls took first in both the 4×100 and 4×400 relays, while the boys won the 4×400.
In the field events, Roseburg’s Tyler Sconce continued his dominance in the shot put and discus. He won both events over North Medford’s Tre Holmes. Sconce won the shot put by just half an inch.
Throwers Dalton Rasmussen and Sam Tibbetts finished first and second in the javelin, respectively. The Roseburg girls also took home first in the high jump, long jump, and pole vault.
The Indians will next compete in the 68th annual Grants Pass Rotary Invitational meet on Saturday before the district meet gets underway May 11.
