ROSEBURG – Roseburg senior Layne Van Anrooy was given major recognition after a stellar season wrestling for the Indians.
The four-time individual and team state champion was selected to the American Family Insurance All-USA wrestling second team in the 160-pound weight class.
Van Anrooy had a record of 49-0 this year and had wins at multiple major tournaments, including the Reno Tournament of Champions, the Doc Buchannan in Clovis, California, and the Reser’s Tournament of Champions.
Van Anrooy and teammate Hadyn Maley became the first four-time individual state champions in Roseburg High School history. Both have signed to wrestle at Division I schools. Van Anrooy will attend Michigan and Maley is going to Stanford.
The USA wrestler of the year was heavyweight Gable Steveson of Apply Valley, Minnesota.
