EUGENE – The Roseburg boy’s track and field team won 11 events to score 171 points and top the South Eugene Axemen in a Southwest Conference dual meet on Wednesday in Eugene.
The Indians excelled in short distance races and in throwing events. Sophomore Eddie Herskovitz placed first in the 100 and 200 meters. He ran a personal best time of 24.12 in the 200, beating his previous best mark by 0.03.
Fellow sophomore Stephen Lake cruised to a victory in the 400 meters with a time of 52.30. He beat the second place competitor by more than a second.
In other events on the track, the Roseburg boys 4×400 relay team, consisting of Tristan Wood, Lake, Hunter Agsten, and Elijah Hansen, took first with a time of 3:45.
The RHS boys swept the field events. Tyler Sconce continued his dominance in the shot put and discus, taking first in both. Sconce has now won every shot put competition he has been a part of this season.
Other winners for Roseburg were senior Sam Tibbets, who won the javelin, junior Jordan Smith, who won the high jump, freshman Blake Johnson, who won the pole vault, and junior Fletcher Brower, who claimed victory in the long jump and the triple jump.
On the girls side, the Roseburg ladies won eight events, but it wasn’t enough as they fell 30 points short of topping South Eugene.
The RHS girls also excelled in the short distances and throwing events. Freshman Gracious Lusby and junior Carolyn Cuilty won the 100 and 200 meters, respectively. Bell Hill won both the discus and shot put and sophomore Gretchen Lucido won the javelin with a personal record throw.
Up next, the Roseburg teams will take part in the Central Coast Invitational at Siuslaw High School on Friday.
