ROSEBURG – The Roseburg softball team was aiming for an upset, but the Indians were dealt a lopsided 12-1 loss by first place North Medford on Tuesday.
The Black Tornado scored in every inning but the first and racked up 15 hits off of Roseburg starter Madysn Blevins. North blew the game open in the third inning. Already leading 3-1, senior Ashley Ripplinger hit a two-run homer with two outs to give the Black Tornado a comfortable lead, which they only added to.
Roseburg’s only run came in the second inning when junior Katie Ladd hit a two-out single with the bases loaded. The Indians left five runners stranded over the first two innings and went hitless over the final five frames.
North Medford (14-1; 7-1 SWC) now has a 1.5 game lead for first place in the Southwest Conference. Roseburg (8-6; 5-3 SWC) dropped into third place.
Up next on the schedule for Roseburg is a visit to South Eugene on Saturday. The Indians and Axemen square off in a conference doubleheader. Game one starts at 11 a.m.
