SEATTLE – Jake Thompson spun 7 2/3 scoreless innings and Steven Kwan paced the No. 1 Oregon State offense with three hits to pace the Beavers to a 3-0 win over Washington Saturday afternoon at Husky Ballpark. The victory gave Oregon State the series win after winning game two of the series on Friday.
Thompson struck out eight, walked three and scattered six hits in the outing, his ninth start of the year, and picked up the win to improve to 8-0. That ties him for the nation’s lead.
Jake Mulholland came on in a bases-loaded situation in the eighth, and picked up the final out of the frame on one pitch, a fielder’s choice to second, to get out of the jam. He then worked a scoreless ninth for his fifth save of the season.
Kwan’s three-hit day marked his sixth multi-hit effort this season for the sophomore, and was one shy of tying his career-high of four, last achieved during the series versus Stanford. On Saturday, he singled in the first and doubled in the third before a seventh-inning two-run single that put the Beavers up 3-0.
Nick Madrigal drove in the first run in the seventh with a bases-loaded walk, on four pitches, against Washington reliever Greg Minier. Kwan then took an 0-2 pitch from Minier and drove a single through the right side of the infield, scoring Cadyn Grenier from third and Adley Rutschman from second.
The win pushed Oregon State to 30-2 overall – fourth team in the country to reach the 30-win plateau – and 14-1 in Pac-12 Conference play, extending the Beavers’ lead in the conference standings to five games over second-place Arizona.
Washington, meanwhile, dropped to 20-14 overall and 7-5 in Pac-12 play.
Michael Gretler finished with his second consecutive two-hit game, helping the Beavers to an eight-hit day.
Joe DeMers started for the Huskies and was charged with the loss, dropping to 3-3 this season. The right-hander allowed seven hits and three runs in 6 1/3 innings.

The win gave Oregon State its fourth consecutive series victory over Washington, and 10th in the last 13. The Beavers have won two straight series in Seattle.
Seven Straight
The Beavers have now won seven consecutive series in Pac-12 play dating back to the 2016 season. Five of the season have been sweeps.
