ROSEBURG – The Roseburg track and field team hosted 17 Oregon schools for the annual Jim Robinson Twilight Invitational on Saturday at Finlay Field.

The Roseburg girls performed well in the short distance races, while the boys excelled at a few of the field events.

Leading the way for the Indians was junior thrower Tyler Sconce, who won the shot put with a new personal record. Sconce out-threw the competition with a mark of 53 feet, 0.45 inches. Roseburg sophomore Carson Ellis placed second in the shot put and also set a new PR. Ellis’s best toss was 46 feet, 7.5 inches.

Senior Sam Tibbetts and junior Fletcher Brower were also top finishers for the RHS boy’s team. Tibbetts took third in the javelin with a personal record toss of 165 feet, 10 inches. Brower finished third int he triple jump with a distance of 40 feet, 6 inches.

Roseburg sprinter Gracious Lusby had the fastest times in the preliminaries of the 100 and 200 meters races, but the freshman finished third in the 100 and fourth in the 200. Senior Aubrey Snyder set a new PR by finishing third in the 400 meter race with a time of 1:02.88.

Roseburg’s top finisher in the girl’s field events was junior Jessica Peterson, who finished third in the shot put with a throw of 35 feet, 2 inches.

Up next for the Roseburg track and field teams is a Southwest Conference dual meet at home against South Medford on Wednesday.
