EUGENE – The Roseburg girl’s track & field team won 12 events to claim victory over Willamette in a Southwest Conference dual meet Wednesday.
The Indians compiled 93 points to outscore the Wolverines by 51. Willamette notched just five first place finishes in the varsity meet.
Roseburg had three girls set new personal records while in the process of finishing atop the podium. Freshman Gracious Lusby won the 200 meter race in 26.55 to set a new personal best. She also took first in the 100 meter with a time of 12.43.
Sophomore Eden Childers set a new PR while winning the 1,500 meter race. She finished with a time of 5:57.86. Sophomore Gretchen Lucido also hit a new PR while winning the javelin with a toss of 90 feet, 7 inches.
The Roseburg boys fell just shy of claiming victory against Willamette. The Indians won six events, but were outscored 74-68.
Three RHS boys also set new PR’s while winning their events. Junior Tyler Sconce won the discus with a new personal record of 150 feet, 5 inches. Senior Sam Tibbets won the javelin with a personal best throw of 153 feet, 1 inch. Junior Julian Wood won the 110 meter hurdles with a person record time of 18.59.
Up next the Roseburg track & field team will host 13 teams on Saturday at Finaly Field for the Jim Robinson Twilight Invitational. Teams from all over Southern Oregon will be in attendance, including local teams Camas Valley and Oakland.
Events begin Saturday at 10:15 a.m.
