PORTLAND, Ore. – Adley Rutschman drove home two with a sixth-inning pinch hit single and Brandon Eisert struck out nine in 3 1/3 innings to send the top-ranked Oregon State baseball team to a 4-3 win over Portland Tuesday night at Joe Etzel Field.

The win extended Oregon State’s win streak to 20 games, tying Missouri for the longest in the nation this season. The Beavers improved to 25-1 overall, and 16-1 in non-conference games.

Rutschman pinch hit for Zak Taylor in the sixth, driving the first pitch he saw from reliever Grady Miller to left. Two scored and the Beavers pushed ahead for good after falling behind 3-2 via a two-run fourth inning by the Pilots (6-22 overall).

Eisert led an Oregon State pitching staff that tied a school record with 18 strikeouts on the night, matching a 1941 performance against Idaho. Jake Mulholland, who earned his third save of the season, struck out five over 2 1/3 innings, and Sam Tweedt, who started, had four.

Eisert came on in the fourth inning, and ended the night with a season-best nine strikeouts while allowing one hit with two walks. At one point, he struck out eight straight, striking out the side in both the fifth and sixth innings.

He improved to 3-0 on the year.

The loss was charged to Miller, who allowed three hits and two runs in one inning. He dropped to 1-5.

Cadyn Grenier started the game’s scoring with a second-inning two-run home run. He was one of seven Beavers who all had one hit on the night.

Starters
Neither starter figured in the decision. Sam Tweedt worked 3 2/3 innings, allowing three hits and two runs. His counterpart, Tate Budnick, four hits and two runs in five innings.

Going Deep
Cadyn Grenier’s home run in the second was the third of his career and second in as many games. The last Beaver with home runs in back-to-back games was KJ Harrison against Oregon in 2016.

Stretching The Streak
Oregon State’s win over the Pilots gave the Beavers their 20th consecutive, tying Missouri for the longest win streak nationally this season. The win also pushed Oregon State to three shy of Arizona State’s conference record of 23, set in 1988.

At Joe Etzel
Oregon State’s win marked the team’s 13th straight at Portland, stretching back to 2005. The Beavers improved to 77-26 at Portland all-time.

At Joe Etzel, Part 2
Per Portland, the 1,300 in attendance at Joe Etzel Field was a sellout and a stadium record. It surpassed the previous record of 1,092, which was set in the 2016 game between the Beavers and Pilots in Portland. A great deal of the crowd was dressed in Orange and Black on Tuesday.
