ROSEBURG – The Umpqua Community College athletics department announced Monday another new coaching hire to fill out the staff for one of its newest programs starting next school year.
The RiverHawks announced that Kyle Temple has been selected to lead the men’s wrestling program, which will begin competition in the fall of 2017. Temple comes to UCC from Cottage Grove High School, where he led the Lions since 2015. He has also served as the head coach for Stayton and Sprague High Schools.
Temple has had plenty of success as a coach and as a wrestler. He’s been a part of three different top 10 teams as a coach and was a two-time state runner-up on the mat.
Along with coaching experience, Temple brings a wealth of connections to wrestling programs around the state. He’s been involved with the Oregon Wrestling Association for a number of years and was named the OWA Junior Level Director in 2016, where he has worked to increase opportunities and participation for high school aged wrestlers across the state at regional and national level tournaments.
Temple wrestled at Sweet Home High School and at Southern Oregon University, where he was a national qualifier his senior season.
The Umpqua men’s wrestling program hopes to have a roster of 30-35 athletes. The RiverHawks will compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association.
