WINCHESTER – If the end of the year All-Region awards are any indication as to how the season went, things went well for the Umpqua Riverhawks.

The Umpqua women’s basketball team dominated the post season award voting, much like they dominated the regular season. Freshman Jordan Stotler captured all three of the top honors in the South Region after an outstanding first year in college.

Stotler, a 2016 graduate of Roseburg High School, was voted the South Region’s Most Valuable Player, the Freshman of the Year, and the Defensive Player of the Year. She helped lead the Riverhawks to an undefeated league season and a 27-2 overall record this year. The 6’4″ post finished the regular second in the South Region in scoring, third in rebounding, first in blocked shots, and top 20 in free throw percentage, assists, and steals.

Also earning All-Region honors for the Lady Riverhawks were Dajanay Powell and Bria Thames, who were both first team selections, and Tasia Bilbrew, who was a second team selection.

Umpqua head coach Dave Stricklin was also named the South Region Coach of the Year for a fourth consecutive season.

Also earning recognition in the women’s game was Clackamas freshman Kayce Mock, who is a 2016 graduate of Sutherlin High School. Mock was voted a second team selection and a member of the All-Defensive Team.

It was also a good award season for the Umpqua men’s basketball team. Freshman Grant Ellison was voted the South Region MVP and Freshman of the Year. Sophomore Jouvon Edison was chosen as the South Region Defensive Player of the Year.

Fellow Umpqua sophomore Jacob Danhoff also earned a second team selection and was voted to the All-Defensive Team.
