BAKER CITY, ORE. – The North Douglas girls basketball team rallied from a 15-point deficit to force overtime, but the Lady Warriors lost 52-51 on a last second free throw by the Crane Mustangs and were eliminated from the post season on Friday morning.

Crane jumped out to an 18-3 lead in the first quarter, but North Douglas slowly chipped away at the deficit. The Lady Warriors tied the game for the first time on a Sabrina MacDowell lay-in with just 35 seconds remaining in regulation.

The Mustangs were unable to hit the game-winning shot before the buzzer and the contest went to overtime.

North Douglas took its first lead in the extra period. Senior Kalli Frieze hit a pair of free throws to put the Warriors up 51-49 with 2:09 left to play. Crane knotted the game up only 18 seconds later and the score remained tied until the final seconds.

North Douglas sophomore Abby Whipple fouled Crane’s Savannah Maupin with 12 seconds left to play. Maupin missed the first of two free throws, but drained the second to give the Mustangs a one-point lead. The Warriors got a look at a buzzer-beater 3-pointer from MacDowell, but her shot was off the mark.

Frieze led North Douglas with 23 points and MacDowell added 10. Whipple pulled down 17 rebounds before fouling out of the game in overtime. Claire Hamond scored 14 to lead Crane.

The North Douglas girls finished the season 26-3.
