WINCHESTER – The regular season came to an end Wednesday night for the Umpqua men and women’s basketball teams.

The No. 1 Umpqua women finished off an undefeated league season with another dominating victory. The Lady Riverhawks downed Chemeketa 84-45 behind Jordan Stotler’s second triple-double of the season.

The freshman post recorded 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 blocked shots. She also had five assists. Dajanay Powell and Bria Thames each recorded double-doubles for Umpuqa and sophomore Tasia Billbrew had 11 points in her final home game of her UCC career.

The Lady Riverhawks built a 39-28 lead at halftime, but really widened their lead in the second half, where they outscored Chemeketa 45-17. Umpqua held the Storm to just 26% shooting from the floor in the game.

Meanwhile, the Umpqua men missed their chance to claim the South Region championship outright by losing by 81-78 against Chemeketa on Wednesday.

The Riverhawks let the game get away from them down the stretch and a technical foul against UCC with 2.8 seconds remaining allowed Chemeketa pull ahead by three. Umpqua’s Derrin Gethers had a chance to tie the game at the buzzer, but he missed a corner three.

The men are now done with the regular season and finished with a 10-6 record. Clark College is in second place with a 9-6 record and one game left to play. If the Penguins win in their regular season finale at Linn-Benton, they would share the league championship with the Riverhawks, but Clark holds the tiebreaker and would get the higher seed for the post season.

The Umpqua men and women now wait for the regular season to end later this week and then will find out their seeding for the upcoming NWAC tournament on Sunday. The teams are planning to watch the NWAC Selection Sunday show at O’Tooles on Sunday afternoon. The women’s bracket will be filled at 2 p.m. and the men’s bracket will be completed at 3 p.m.
