BAKER CITY, ORE. – The 1A state basketball playoffs are down to the final eight boys and girls teams and the post season now shifts to Baker High School where state champions will be crowned on Saturday.
The North Douglas and Days Creek boys basketball teams have both advanced to the championship tournament and will take the floor on Wednesday in the quarterfinals. Neither team made the playoffs one year ago, but they aren’t lacking in post season experience. The Warriors and Wolves were both in the state playoffs two seasons ago and a number of players are still on both rosters.
No. 9 North Douglas boys will have a tough route to the finals. The Warriors face defending-state champion Sherman in the quarterfinals on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.
No. 2 Days Creek won its league championship and will try to carry that momentum into a deep playoff run. The Wolves square off against No. 7 Powder Valley Wednesday at 8:15 p.m.
Both games will be broadcast locally on 1490 The Score.
The North Douglas girls are an experienced group that has placed top three in the state the past two seasons, including a runner-up finish last year. The No. 2 Lady Warriors were beaten by Country Christian in the championship game last year and the two teams are on a collision course to meet in the semifinals if they both win in the quarterfinals.
North Douglas takes on No. 10 Powder Valley in the quarters at 8:15 p.m. on Thursday.
