PORTLAND – The Glide wrestling team had four wrestlers finish runner-up at the state tournament Saturday night and the Wildcats claimed a fourth place finish for a second consecutive season.
The Wildcats finished with 122 points in the 3A tournament. Nyssa claimed its third straight state title with 287 points. Also ahead of Glide in the team standings was Willamina/Falls City with 167 points and Dayton with 134 points.
Glide got as high as third in the standings and had a strong chance to finish in the top three, but the four Wildcat wrestlers who made the finals weren’t able to come up with a victory.
Three of Glide’s four wrestlers were pinned by their opponent in the finals. Senior Kasey Collier, the 2-seed at 132 pounds, had the closest match in the finals. Collier lost 9-3 to top-seed Aristotle Rockwell from Riverside.
Also finishing runner-up for Glide was Zach Holland (145), Ryland Parazoo (152), and Collyn Potter (195). All of Glide’s wrestlers in the finals had also placed at state the year before.
The Wildcats also had two other wrestlers finish on the podium. Cayden Kangiser took fourth at 170 pounds and Zack Welker finished sixth at 220 pounds.
