GOLD BEACH, ORE. – The Oakland and Riddle/Days Creek wrestling teams will each have two competitors at the 2A/1A state tournament this weekend in Portland.
The Oakers placed fifth at the Special District 2 tournament on Saturday at Gold Beach High School. Leading the way for Oakland were freshman Austin VanHouten (132) and William Powell (145), who each placed second in their weight class.
Riddle had two second place finishers and the Irish finished sixth in the team standings. Sophmore Donovan Hargraves qualified for state at 138 pounds and seniors Daniel Jasper made the cut at 170 pounds.
The state wrestling tournament begins Friday morning in Portland at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
