SUTHERLIN – The Sutherlin girls basketball team clinched its sixth straight league title Friday night with a 53-24 victory over the winless Sweet Home Huskies at the Dog Pound at Sutherlin High School.

The Bulldogs blew the game open in the first quarter with Taylor Stricklin scoring 12 points and Harlee Baker adding seven. Sutherlin bolted out to a 27-4 lead after a quarter.

Stricklin led all scorers with 19 and freshman Kiersten Haines had 12 and both had a pair of three-pointers.
Baker finished with nine, and the three starters didn’t play much in the second half with the game already decided.

Sophomore Alana Silver had eight for the Huskies who finished the season 0-22 overall and 0-10 in the Sky-Em League.

Sutherlin completed the league season with a 9-1 record, the only blemish was a one-point loss to Cottage Grove. They improved to 19-5 overall and finished one game ahead of the Lions in the league standings. The Bulldogs dropped to number #5 in the OSAA rankings.

The Bulldogs will likely have a home game in the playoff round on Saturday March 4. The opponent is still to be determined.
