EUGENE – A 10-0 run by South Eugene to start the second half doomed the Roseburg boy’s basketball team in its final road game of the regular season. The Indians had battled through a number of runs by the Axemen in the first half to only trail by 10 at the break, but the third quarter explosion was too much as Roseburg fell 65-47 on Friday night.

The Indians fell behind 5-0 to open the game, but they responded with a 7-0 run to pull ahead of the Axemen by two. It would be the only lead of the game for Roseburg. South Eugene finished the first period up 17-11.

South Eugene stretched its lead in the second quarter by outscoring Roseburg 17-13 for a 34-24 advantage.

The Axemen burst out of the gates in the third quarter and shut down the Indians. South Eugene pulled ahead by 24 going to the fourth quarter and Roseburg didn’t have a monumental comeback.

Roseburg’s Collin Warmouth scored a game-high 23 points and Cody Johnson added 13 points on 3-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc.

South Eugene had four players finish in double figures. Senior Collin Chubbfertal led the Axemen with 15 points. He made 4-of-6 three point shots. Everett Brandt and Jay Elmore each added 11 points.

Roseburg has now lost three straight and will finish the regular season with a home game on Tuesday against Grants Pass. The Indians will honor four seniors on the roster. Graduating from the program is Michael Lookabaugh, Matthew Stone, Jack Christner, and Treven Jacks.
