MEDFORD – The North Medford boys basketball team built an early 8-0 lead against Roseburg on Tuesday night and the Black Tornado held off the Indians the rest of the game as they cruised to a 51-36 Southwest Conference victory.

Roseburg (5-17; 2-8 SWC) fought back to get within six points later in the first quarter, but that was as close as the Indians would get the rest of the game. North Medford (17-5; 9-1 SWC) led 18-8 at the end of the first period. Roseburg rallied to within seven points in the second quarter, but the Black Tornado again pulled ahead by 10 going to the halftime break.

The Indians fell behind by 14 in the third quarter and the lead grew to as much as 20 points in the fourth.

Roseburg finished with only one player in double figures. Junior Cody Johnson scored 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from 3-point range.

Senior Joey Hunter led North Medford with 13 points, while Kaison Faust added 10 and three players finished with eight.

Up next for Roseburg is another road game on Friday. The Indians visit South Medford at 6:45 p.m.
