PORTLAND – The cheerleading state championship competition took place on Saturday. Roseburg, Glide, and Oakland all sent teams to the event, but there were no trophies to be had for the local teams.

Roseburg placed 8th in the coed small division, while Glide and Oakland placed 8th and 9th respectively in the 3A/2A/1A division.

Also on Saturday, the Douglas Trojans finished third at the 4A Special District 3 championship wrestling tournament held at South Umpqua High School. The South Umpqua Lancers finished sixth, while Marshfield won the district title.

Both Douglas and South Umpqua had one individual champion at the district meet. Cole Waldron from Douglas took first at 126 pounds and Josh Buehler from South Umpqua won the 220 pound weight class.

Overall, Douglas had seven wrestlers finish in the top three of their weight class, which qualifies them for the 4A state tournament. South Umpqua had three wrestlers place in the top five to qualify for state.
