WINCHESTER – The Umpqua men’s and women’s basketball teams pulled off a sweep of the visiting Mt. Hood Saints on Saturday in the Umpqua Community College gym.
The No. 1 ranked women started the day with a monstrous 96-38 demolishing of Mt. Hood. The Lady Riverhawks led 58-17 at halftime, allowing a lot of minutes to be played by UCC players off the bench.
Daisy Powell scored 26 points to lead the Riverhawks and Jacque Luaders added 11 points off the bench.
The UCC women clinched a playoff berth with the victory and have now won 11-straight contests.
The No. 8 ranked Umpqua men stayed atop the South Region standings with an 82-71 win over Mt. Hood. Four UCC players finished in double figures and did most of the scoring.
Jouvon Edison scored a game-high 20 points to lead UCC, while Darrin Gethers added 18 and Timmy Thompson had 17. The Riverhawks played without leading scorer Grant Ellison, who rolled his ankle in a game against Linn-Benton on Wednesday.
Up next for the UCC men and women is a trip to Lane Community College on Wednesday.
