SUTHERLIN – The Sutherlin boys moved back into a three-way tie for first place in the Sky-Em League after a grueling 31-28 overtime win over first place Sisters Friday night.
The Bulldogs (15-7, 6-2 Sky-Em) came back from a six-point deficit in the fourth quarter and shut out the Outlaws to force over time.
Senior Bowen Briggs hit two 3-pointers early in the period to get the Bulldogs even and the defense managed to hold the Outlaws scoreless in the quarter to send the game to overtime. Briggs had another 3-pointer in overtime and the Bulldogs hung on for the three-point win, forcing another tie for the conference lead.
“His (Briggs) two biggest nights have been against Sisters. He was ready to go tonight,” said coach Willis New.
Briggs said it was the defense that kept them in the game, until the offense could get something going.
“We just worked hard. Even when we were down we fought back, even though we weren’t making shots,” said Briggs
Briggs finished with a game-high 15 points with four 3-pointers.
Ty Horner, a 6’8” junior center led the Outlaws with 12.
