SPRINGFIELD – The Southwest Conference swimming championships came down to the final day of competition on Saturday in Springfield, but the Roseburg boys defended their title from last year, edging out Sheldon by just two points.
The Indians were victorious in the 200 yard freestyle relay, the 400 yard freestyle relay, and the 50 yard freestyle race, which junior Robert Gosman won.
The Roseburg girls placed third at the conference championship, winning the 200 freestyle relay and claiming a title in the 50 yard freestyle race on the performance of junior Amiya Krueger.
It was a strong weekend for the Indians. Head coach Christy Todd said there were 29 PRs set during the conference meet.
Up next is the State Championship meet held in Gresham at Mt. Hood Community College this weekend. Roseburg will compete in seven boys events and three girls.
