WINCHESTER – The No. 1 ranked Umpqua women’s basketball team built a 34-point lead in the first half and cruised to a 94-53 victory over Linn-Benton Wednesday night.

The UCC women outscored the Road Runners 54-20 in the first half and used the second half to give plenty of rest to the starters. Head coach Dave Stricklin was able to empty the bench using 10 players total in the contest.

Freshman forward Daisy Powell scored a game-high 24 points and pulled down nine rebounds to lead the Lady Riverhawks. Bria Thames had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Courtney Landis led Linn-Benton with 16 points.

Umpqua has now won 10 straight games. The Riverhawks remained at No. 1 in the latest NWAC coaches poll, released on Wednesday. While UCC stayed at the top of the rankings, the Lower Columbia women stole one first place vote and jumped two spots in the rankings to No. 2.

Up next, the Umpqua women will host Mt. Hood on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Riverhawks dominated the Scots 90-34 in a game last weekend.
