WINCHESTER – The Umpqua men and women continued their chase for a pair of league championships with wins over Portland on Monday.

Playing make-up games from earlier in the season, the Umpqua women won 88-77 and the UCC men defeated the Panthers 91-86.

Jordan Stotler made her return for the No. 1 Lady Riverhawks and led the UCC women with 31 points and 13 rebounds. Stotler made seven 3-pointers, helping UCC rally from a six-point first quarter deficit. The Riverhawks outscored Portland 30-15 in the second quarter to grab control of the game.

Daisy Powell also finished with a double-double, recording 28 points and 13 rebounds. Tasia Bilbrew recorded 10 assists for the Riverhawks.

The Umpqua women have now won nine straight, which is the longest current streak in the NW Athletic Conference.

Grant Ellison scored 28 points to lead the No. 8 UCC men to a second half rally. The Riverhawks trail 45-41 at the break, but held the Panthers to just 34 percent shooting in the second half to come back. Timmy Thompson added 21 points and seven rebounds for the Riverhawks.

The win puts the UCC men two full games ahead of four teams currently tied for second place in the South Region standings.

The Riverhawks get back to action on Wednesday, when they host Linn-Benton. The women’s game will be played 5:30 p.m. The men’s game will take place at 7:30 p.m.
