ROSEBURG – Two Roseburg High School student athletes made their college decisions official on Tuesday in the RHS Career Center. Seniors Sammy Nash and Maddy Lee signed paperwork to finalize their plans to continue their educations while also advancing their athletic careers.
Nash chose to continue her volleyball career at the University of Michigan – Dearborn, where she’ll have a chance to win the starting libero job as a freshman. Nash was a first team All-Southwest Conference libero for the Indians last year.
Dearborn, Michigan is nearly 2,500 miles away from Roseburg, but Nash isn’t worried about the distance. She’s made trips to Michigan to visit family for most of her life and the school offers many things she was looking for.
“I really like the people there and the players and coaches,” Nash said. “It’s not a very big school, compared to like the University of Michigan, but I didn’t really want a big school.”
Lee will continue her academics and soccer career at Lane Community College. She also expects to get the chance to start right away after earning honorable mention honors during her senior season.
“It’s going to be a really fun experience,” Lee said. “I’m excited. I’ve met a bunch of girls on the team. The coach is awesome. I’m just over the moon.”
The girls both signed their papers during a ceremony with friends and family at Roseburg High School.
