ROSEBURG – The Roseburg boys basketball team pushed the visiting Sheldon Irish to the brink, but the Indians once again fell short of an upset losing 59-55 Friday night in a Southwest Conference contest.
The Indians led or were tied at the end of every quarter except for the last. Roseburg trailed by four in the first quarter, but finished with a 14-12 lead. The Tribe pulled ahead by five in the second quarter, but a buzzer-beater 3-pointer by Sheldon’s Zak Hankins tied the game 30-30 going to the break.
Roseburg took a seven-point lead early in the third quarter, but couldn’t hold off the Irish. The Indians were only able to hold a three-point lead going to the final period.
Sheldon went on a 9-0 run early in the fourth to pull ahead by seven. Roseburg fought back, but couldn’t overcome the deficit.
Roseburg’s Collin Warmouth scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Indians. The mark was a new season-high for the sophomore. Cody Johnson made three 3-pointers and added 14 for the Indians.
Sheldon’s Will Swank scored 24 points, including four 3-pointers. Hankins netted 10 and was the only other player in double figures.
Up next for the Indians is a home contest against South Medford. Roseburg beat the Panthers in Medford earlier in the season for the team’s only conference win. The game tips off at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
