COOS BAY – The Umpqua men’s and women’s basketball teams stayed on track to win a South Region title by sweeping past the SW Oregon Lakers on Wednesday.

The No. 1 ranked Umpqua women had their closest league game of the season in a 98-85 victory over the Lakers.

Jordan Stotler scored a game-high 32 points on 13-of-24 shooting in just 27 minutes on the court. She added nine rebounds and three blocked shots. She was one of five UCC players to score in double figures. Dajanay Powell netted 19 points and 11 rebounds and Bria Thames had a double-double as well with 15 points and 13 rebounds.

The Lady Riverhawks have now won seven straight games, but haven’t been able to put any distance between themselves and second place Lane Community College, which is just one-game behind UCC in the standings.

The No. 8 ranked Umpqua men got redemption for an earlier loss to SWOCC with a 70-55 victory.

The UCC men trailed the Lakers 27-25 at halftime, but rallied in the second half to outscore SWOCC 45-28. The Riverhakws went from shooting 32-percent from the floor in the first half to 62-percent after the break. Most of the damage was done from close range as the Riverhawks went just 1-of-8 from behind the 3-point line.

Jacob Danhoff led four Umpqua players in double figures with 19 points. He tallied a double-double by grabbing 10 rebounds. Ethan Betts added 16 points and Timmy Thompson chipped in 13.

The win stretches the UCC men’s winning streak to six games and keeps the Riverhawks in sole possession of first place in the South Region. UCC holds a 1.5 game lead over second place Chemeketa.

Up next for the Umpqua men and women is a visit to Clark College on Saturday. The women play at 2 p.m. and the men at 4 p.m.
