GRANTS PASS – The Roseburg boys finished out the first half of the Southwest Conference season in familiar fashion. The Indians suffered another loss in another closely contested game.

Roseburg fell behind by nine in the first quarter against Grants Pass, but rallied to go neck-and-neck with the Cavemen down the stretch, only to lose 44-35 Tuesday night in Grants Pass.

Cody Johnson scored the game’s first basket to put the Indians up 3-0, but Grants Pass finished the first period on a 12-0 run. Roseburg pushed back and outscored the Cavemen 21-7 from the second quarter into the early portion of the third quarter, building 24-19 advantage.

The scoring went back-and-forth through the third quarter and the teams finished the period tied 26-26. Both teams went scoreless for the first three minutes of the fourth quarter, but a 3-point basket by Trevor Dowd put Grants Pass up 29-26 and the Cavemen would lead the rest of the way.

Roseburg (4-14; 1-5 SWC) kept the game close and trailed 35-33 with 1:45 left to play, but the Indians turned to fouling to conserve time and the Cavemen sealed the win at the free throw line. Sophomore Taylor Anderson made 7-of-8 from the line in the final period, leading Grants Pass on a 9-2 run to finish the game.

Anderson led Grants Pass (5-13; 2-5 SWC) with a game-high 12 points. He was one of three players in double figures for the Cavemen. Tayler Phillips added 11 and Dowd chipped in 10.

Cody Johnson led the way for Roseburg scoring 11 points, including three 3-pointers. The junior was the only Roseburg player in double figures.

Roseburg will begin the second half of the Southwest Conference season with a home game against the Sheldon Irish on Friday.
