SALEM – It was a high-scoring night for the Umpqua basketball teams on Wednesday. The Riverhawks visited Chemeketa and both teams scored in the triple digits to claim victory and stay at the top of the South Region standings.
The No. 1-ranked Umpqua women shot an amazing 59% from the floor and had three players score 20+ points to defeat Chemeketa 103-67.
Bria Thames scored a season-high 30 points to lead the Riverhawks, while Jordan Stotler chipped in 23 and Daisy Powell added 21.
The Lady Riverhawks have now won six straight and hold a one-game lead for first over Lane.
The No. 8-ranked Umpqua men won their fifth consecutive game in a barn-burner. The Riverhawks outpaced Chemeketa 122-116 in a contest where both teams shot the lights out.
Umpqua was led by Grant Ellison, who scored a season-high 31 points. Ethan Betts added 21 points and Darrin Gethers chipped in 20.
Up next, the Umpqua men and women will visit Southwestern Oregon in Coos Bay on Wednesday.
