SISTERS – The Sutherlin boys came as close as you can to pulling off an upset win on the road at Sisters, taking the Outlaws into overtime on Friday, before losing 33-32 for their first league loss.
Sisters height advantage finally got to the Bulldogs in the fourth quarter and overtime period. Ty Horner, a 6-8 junior center hit a key basket late in the fourth period to tie it 27-27, and then hit a pair of free-throws to give the Outlaws a 29-27 lead, before the Bulldogs tied it on Mason Gill’s basket to sen it to overtime.
Then Horner added another big basket in the overtime to give the Outlaws the advantage once again. Horner finished with a team-high 10 points.
Freshman Mason Gill led Sutherlin with 13 points and Bowen Briggs had 12 on four three-pointers.
Sutherlin ranked #15 by the OSAA, drops into a tie with Sisters for second place in the Sky-Em League. The Outlaws moved up to #7 with the win.
The Bulldogs will have to face league leader Cottage Grove next, when the Lions roar into town on Tuesday night.
