SUTHERLIN – The Sutherlin boys basketball team is now 2-0 in the Sky-Em League after pulling away from Elmira in the fourth quarter for a 47-35 victory Tuesday night on the Bulldogs home court.

The game was close through the first three quarters, tied 9-9 after one and a 20-19 Sutherlin lead at the half. In the third quarter the Bulldogs built a five point lead, but they never put the Falcons away until late in the fourth quarter.

Bowen Briggs hit a 3-pointer to give Sutherlin a 37-29 lead with six minutes left. Marshall Warmouth hit a field goal and went 4-of-4 from the line to seal the win.

Freshman Mason Gill had 20 to lead all scorers, Warmouth and Albert Christianson each had eight, and Briggs netted seven points and the only Bulldogs’ three-pointer of the game.

Junior Kellen Smith led Elmira (4-9, 0-2 Sky-Em) with 11, nine of those came in the first quarter.

Sutherlin (11-5, 2-0 Sky-Em) stays in a tie for first place in the Sky-Em League with Cottage Grove with the win.  The Bulldogs visit Sisters on Friday night.
