ROSEBURG – The Roseburg girls basketball team was hoping to make a statement against a short-handed South Medford team at home Tuesday night, but a huge second quarter was the beginning of a runaway 83-50 win for the visiting Panthers.

South Medford led by just one at the end of the first quarter, but the Panthers outscored Roseburg 27-9 in the second period for a 19-point lead at halftime. South just kept stretching the lead in the second half.

Taylor Russell led the Indians with 15 points. Valarie Viramontes and Sammie Bergmann each added 10 for Roseburg.

South Medford played with only seven players due to illness and injury. Lauren Orndoff scored a game-high 25 points to lead South and Hannah Washington added 21.

The Roseburg girls visit South Eugene for their next game on Friday at 6:45 p.m.
