JUNCTION CITY – The Sutherlin boys used balanced scoring and a solid defense to get past Junction City Friday night 44-39.
The Bulldogs led 20-12 at halftime, but gave away the entire lead and then some, falling behind by five early in the fourth quarter. Sutherlin finally took the lead back 33-31 with four minutes to go, and never gave it up.
Dillon Davison came off the bench to score eight points in the fourth quarter and Sutherlin outscored the Tigers 18-10 in the final frame.
Freshman guard Brandon Carr had 10 with a three-pointer, Bowen Briggs and Davison each had eight and freshman Mason Gill and junior Albert Christianson each had seven. Marshal Warmouth was back after a bout with the flu and he had five points before fouling out with just under four minutes to go.
The Bulldogs will host Elmira Tuesday night at the Dog Pound in Sutherlin with tipoff about 5:45 p.m.
