ALBANY – Finally back to action after nearly a week off, the Umpqua men’s and women’s basketball teams didn’t show any rust against the Linn-Benton Road Runners Wednesday night.
The Lady Riverhawks controlled their contest against Linn-Benton from start to finish. Four players finished in double figures as the Riverhawks won 91-58. A pair of Roseburg natives led the way for Umpqua. Jordan Stotler scored a game-high 23 points and Ashley Backen had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Tasia Bilbrew added 18 for the Riverhawks and Bria Thames chipped in 17.
The Umpqua men held Linn-Benton to just 26.5 percent shooting in the first half to build a nine-point advantage and the Riverhawks held on for an 84-76 victory. It’s the first league win of the season for the UCC men. Grant Ellison scored a game-high 19 points to lead Umpqua. Jacob Danhoff and Darrin Gethers each added 13 for the Riverhawks.
Up next, the Umpqua men and women will host Portland for a league series on Saturday. The women tipoff at 2 p.m. and the men play at 4 p.m.
