MURPHY, OR — Senior Marshal Warmouth came up big for Sutherlin pouring in 28 points including 9 in the fourth quarter as the Bulldogs held off Marshfield for a 47-35 victory.

Sutherlin (7-2) shut out the Pirates (3-7) in the first quarter and led 12-0. They built the lead to 18 at one point, before the Pirates charged back in the third period to cut it to 7 at 31-24, and it was down to a three point lead with about five minutes left.

Coach Willis New said he wanted Warmouth to get aggressive, and he did.

“Marshal may have played the best game of his life, he was very aggressive and he got things to falls,” said New.

Despite his career best on offense, Warmouth credited the defense.

“It was the pressure defense, we came in thinking we were going to have to put a lot of pressure on them and that’s what we did,” said Warmouth.

Albert Christianson had 10 points and 11 rebounds, and Bowen Briggs had five rebounds, five assists and five steals.

“Overall I think we battled, and that’s a big win for a young team, it’s the best win of the year,“ New said.

The Bulldogs move into the winners bracket and will face Hidden Valley at 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
