ROSEBURG – Local high school wrestling teams got together for the Douglas County Championships Wednesday night with battles in a variety of weight classes taking place. Roseburg high school, the host team won the overall team scoring with 184 points. Glide came in second with 125 points and Douglas/Camas Valley came in third with 87.5 points.

Roseburg coach Steve Lander said, “Overall for the day, lots of good wrestling and obviously we got things to work on. That’s the good thing about competition; it shows some good things and things you got to work on.”

Kasey Collier from Glide won a hard fought match against Austin Davis 5-3 of Roseburg to win the 138 pound division.

Terrell Jacks of Roseburg defeated Brayden Schultz 9-8 in a very close match that came down to the very end. Jacks was able to get a two point taken with under 30 seconds left to hold on for the win in a back and forth match. Jacks said “It was a tough battle. I came in with my head high. He was a tough competitor. It was a grind. We were both super tired I could tell. Just had to keep battling.”

Lander added. “We take pride in our conditioning and that was good he came through when he did.”

Roseburg will be looking to improve on their technique and leg defense something they haven’t focused on up to this point in the season. “Part of that is our philosophy, to always be on offense.” Lander explained.

Collyn Potter of Glide, defeated Max Labahn of Roseburg on a fall 1:57 into the match to win the 220 pound division. Potter said “It feels pretty good, it’s another tournament that I wanted to take first at. Hard work and dedication pays off.”

Ryland Parazoo of Glide defeated Bryson Diaz from Roseburg on a fall 1:59 into the match to take the 160 pound weight class. Parazoo said “It’s a good feeling when you win. We prepare every day for this.”

Zach Holland of Glide defeated Shane Sabins of Roseburg, 7-1 in the 152 pound division. Holland said “I just prepared myself to stay in good position. I did what I could with my moves and I out wrestled him.”

At one stretch where Roseburg was in nearly every final in the tournament the Indians lost several championship matches in a row. Lander concluded. “We had a bad stretch where we lost five matches in a row. I don’t like doing that anytime. Credit to the other guys, they were better than us that time.”
