ROSEBURG – Junior Luke Lucido scored a season-high 20 points and the Roseburg boys basketball team toppled the North Eugene Highlanders 73-47 in a nonleague game on Saturday night.

The Indians and Highlanders traded blows early on and were tied at 6-6 with about five minutes to play in the first quarter. Roseburg’s Cody Johnson stole a pass and made a break away lay-in to give the Tribe the lead for good. The Indians finished the period on a 16-0 run to lead 22-6 going to the second quarter.

Roseburg stretched its lead in the second period behind solid offensive performances by Lucido and Collin Warmouth. They both finished the half with 11 points. Lucido was hot from the floor making his first seven shots, including a 3-pointer.

Warmouth was lights out from the free throw line where he went 6-for-6 in the first half. The sophomore finished the game 12-for-13 from the line and had 19 points.

The Indians led by as many as 29 points in the first half, but North Eugene chipped away and got back to within 16 points early in the fourth quarter. Roseburg shut the rally down with a 16-6 run to finish the contest.

Up next the Roseburg boys take part in the Rebel Basketball Classic at South Albany High School. The tournament starts Wednesday, December 21. Roseburg starts with a game against the host team, South Albany. The game tips off at 5 p.m.
