SUTHERLIN – The Sutherlin boys and girls swept the Douglas Trojans to claim the upper-hand in the Douglas County rivalry on Tuesday night.

The girls’ game went to overtime, where the Lady Bulldogs prevailed 59-53. Sutherlin trailed Douglas 33-30 going to halftime, but regained a lead in the third quarter. The Lady Trojans outscored Sutherlin 13-8 in the fourth quarter to battle back and tie the game at 50 at the end of regulation. 

Sutherlin’s defense kicked in to hold Douglas to just three points in the overtime session. The Bulldogs avoided losing back-to-back games for the first time since the 2010-2011 season.

Taylor Stricklin led Sutherlin with 23 points and Harlee Baker chipped in 21. Darian Mitchell netted 17 points to lead Douglas.

The Sutherlin boys jumped out to an 18-0 lead against Douglas and improved to 4-0 on the year with a 45-30 win over the Trojans. Marshal Warmouth scored 19 to lead Sutherlin. Ronny Moscyznski had 8 to lead Douglas.

Coming up next for Sutherlin is a road match-up against North Valley on Friday. The girls play first at 5:30 p.m. and the boys follow at approximately 7 p.m.

The Douglas boys and girls next play on Friday when they begin the Douglas Tournament. The Trojans will host the two-day tourney and both teams face Oakland in the first round. The girls play at 6 p.m. and the boys play at 7:30 p.m.
