ROSEBURG – After a shaky start to the season, the Roseburg boys basketball team came out firing against the Thurston Colts on Tuesday night. The Indians managed to outpace the Colts for a 57-51 win in a see-saw battle that came down to the wire.

Coming off a 32-point loss to Springfield on Friday, the Indians came out hot in the first quarter hitting 6-of-8 shots to build an early lead. The Tribe went up by as many as seven points and took a 14-9 lead going to the second quarter.

Roseburg cooled a bit before the half, allowing Thurston to claw its way back. The Colts would tie the game twice in the second quarter, first at 14-14 with 4:49 to play and then again on a buzzer-beater 3-point shot by Sterling Minor that sent the game to the break tied at 22.

Thurston briefly took a one-point lead in the third quarter, but the Indians handled the Colts pressure and regained the a four-point edge going to the final quarter.

Roseburg didn’t relinquish the lead the rest of the game and built as much as an 11-point advantage. Sophomore Collin Warmouth scored 10 of his game-high 22 points in the final frame to help keep the Indians comfortably in front.

All told, eight Roseburg players found their way into the scorebook. Juniors Cody Johnson and John Crince each chipped in nine points for Roseburg and Luke Lucido added six. Senior Cade Bates led Thurston with 13 points.

When asked what was the difference between the 32-point loss to Springfield and the win against Thurston, Warmouth said it was all about energy.

“We came out with a lot more energy than we did on Friday and we ran our offense better,” Warmouth said.

The Indians will try to keep the energy up as they head on a lengthy road trip to Canby on Friday. Roseburg will take on the Cougars at 6:45 p.m. Coverage of the game will start at 6:30 p.m. on 1490 The Score and online at 541radio.com.
