KEIZER, ORE. – The Roseburg wrestling team opened the 2016-17 season in dominating fashion, winning the McNary Tournament on Friday night.

The Indians started the dual with a shutout 82-0 win against the Renegades, a team made up of extra wrestlers from schools attending the tournament. The big start got the Tribe off and rolling. From there, Roseburg defeated Milwaukie 70-5 in the semifinals and won the tournament championship 72-6 over Dallas.

Roseburg is trying to win its fourth straight state championship and got the season off on the right foot. Head coach Steve Lander was impressed with his group. “The boys were good,” Lander said after the match.

Up next the Roseburg wrestling team will compete in the Army Strong Coast Classic at North Bend High School on Friday and Saturday next week.

A group of junior varsity wrestlers are taking part in the Willie Wilkinson Tournament at Glide High School today.
