SPRINGFIELD – Roseburg boy’s basketball coach Mike Pardon has said his team is young and inexperienced this year and on Friday night the Indians showed it in a 62-30 loss to the Springfield Millers.
The Tribe struggled with turnovers and couldn’t keep a hot-shooting Millers team in check. Springfield jumped out to an 18-point lead in the first quarter and just stretched the lead from there. The Millers led by as much as 37 in the second half and finished the game shooting nearly 49 percent from the floor.
The Millers seemed to have a different player take the lead in each quarter. Senior Joe Gonzalez scored 11 of his game-high 16 points in the first quarter. In the second quarter sophomore Jordan Carrillo scored all 10 of his points to help put Springfield up 45-13 at the break.
Senior standout Nicholas Ah Sam went off in the third quarter for nine of his 15 points. The Millers starting emptying the bench in the fourth quarter with the game in hand.
Roseburg played a more competitive second half, but only finished shooting 30 percent from the floor. Collin Warmouth was the lone Roseburg player to reach double figures. The Sophomore made all six of his free throw attempts and finished with 11 points. The Indians used all 10 available players in the game and six scored.
