ROSEBURG – The Umpqua men’s basketball team improved to 2-0 on the young season with a convincing 97-63 win over the JV team from Willamette University on Monday.

The Riverhawks dominated nearly every facet of the game. Umpqua shot nearly 49-percent from the floor and hit 6-of-13 shots from behind the arc. UCC finished with 20 more rebounds than the Bearcats and had the advantage in turnovers, steals, and blocked shots.

Umpqua pulled ahead by 25 points in the first half and stretched the lead even further in the second. It was the second straight 30-plus point victory for Umpqua so far this year.

Freshman Grant Ellison finished with a game-high 24 points for the Riverhawks. He was one of four players in double figures for UCC.

Up next the Riverhawks will hit the road for the first time this season. Umpqua visits Centralia College in Washington State. The game will tipoff at 7 p.m. Friday.
