TACOMA, WASH. – The Umpqua women’s volleyball team staved off elimination with another comeback victory at the Northwest Athletic Conference championship tournament on Friday night.
The Riverhawks lost their opening set against Edmonds Community College, but rallied back to squeeze out victories in the final two sets to claim a win in the best of three match.
Edmonds won the first set 25-16 and Umpqua looked out of sorts. The Riverhawks regrouped and edged the Tritons 27-25 in the second set and prevailed with another narrow win 15-13 in the decisive final set.
Viviana Rodriguez had 13 kills to lead the Riverhawks offense. She was followed closely by Olivia Gulliford, who finished with 11 kills. Kaylee Hagadorn had 26 assists for Umpqua and Kaysie Cornellio had a team-high 18 digs.
The Riverhawks move on in the consolation bracket to face Clark College at 10 a.m. Saturday. The winner moves on to face Linn-Benton at 11:45 a.m. Saturday, while the loser will end the year.
