UCC LOGOROSEBURG – The Umpqua women’s volleyball team finished the regular season on Wednesday and the Riverhawks have clinched a post season berth with a victory over the Southwestern Oregon Lakers.

The Riverhawks defeated the Lakers in straight sets for their third Southern Region win in four games. The hot streak down the stretch helped Umpqua secure the fourth and final playoff spot out of the Southern Region.

Olivia Gulliford and Viviana Rodriguez both had 10 kills to lead the Riverhawks’ attack. Kaysie Cornelio had 16 digs and Kaylee Hagadorn finished with 22 assists.

Umpqua now moves on to the Northwest Athletic Conference championship tournament in Tacoma next week. It’s the first time the Riverhawks have been in the conference tournament since 2012, when the team lost in the opening round, but rallied to make it to the consolation quarterfinals before bowing out.

The Umpqua Riverhawks will have a stiff test. Their first round opponent is the top team from the Northern Region, Bellevue. The Bulldogs finished the year with a 34-8 overall record and an 11-1 regional record. The first round match-up is scheduled to take place at 9 a.m. on Thursday, November 17.
