SUTHERLIN – It’s on to the first round of the 4A state playoffs for the Sutherlin girls soccer team on Tuesday. The Lady Bulldogs are coming off of an emotional overtime victory against Baker in the play-in round last week and will try to carry that momentum into a road playoff game against No. 5 Gladstone.

It’s Sutherlin’s first trip to the state playoffs since an appearance in the first round in 2011. The five seniors on the Bulldog’s roster were only in seventh grade at the time, so there’s not a lot of post season experience on the squad.

Sutherlin squares off against a senior-laden Gladstone team that has seen plenty of success in recent history. The current roster is stocked with players that have made it to at least the quarterfinals in each of the past three seasons. Gladstone most recent

ly won a state championship in 2012, capping off its third state title in four years.

The No. 12 Sutherlin Bulldogs travel north to face Gladstone at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The winner moves on to the quarterfinals to face the winner of Cascade and McLoughlin/Weston-McEwen.
