WINSTON – Douglas volleyball took down Sweet Home in a play-in game Tuesday night to advance to the State playoffs round of 16. They won in straight sets 25-21, 25-16, 29-27.

The Trojans lost senior setter Molly Williams to an apparent ankle injury in the first set. Sophomore Juliana Allen came in and performed well contributing 21 assists. Head coach Carl Bone said “I’m really proud of my sophomore setter (Juliana) it’s tough when you’re a JV player and all of a sudden you have to come in. We just told her nothing fancy and make the best possible set out of it. We have girls who can swing all over the floor.”

The Trojans were led by Darian Mitchell who had 14 kills and 11 digs. Rachel Hickam had 12 digs and 11 digs. Douglas now looks forward to the state playoff round of 16. Douglas will travel to play Baker this Saturday at 2pm. Baker is ranked 5th in the tournament while the Trojans drew the 12th seed.

Glide volleyball beat Creswell in the Mountain Valley Conference championship Tuesday night 3-1. The Wildcats took the first set 25-21 but lost the second 13-25. In another close game Glide was able to battle for the third set win 27-25. Glide took the fourth set 25-11, to win the MVC tournament championship.  The Bulldogs were led by McKya Filley with 19 kills, 15 digs, and seven blocks. Sierra Mauro pitched in 13 kills, 18 assists, and 11 blocks to go along with Piper Kaul’s 22 assists, 15 blocks and three aces. Glide will play at home this Saturday against St. Mary’s, Medford at 2:30pm.  Glide is ranked 1st in the tournament .

Sutherlin volleyball plays at Valley Catholic this Saturday at 4pm. Sutherlin is ranked 16th in the tournament while Valley Catholic drew the 1st seed.
